Celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Last Friday, our school came together for a heartfelt MLK Day Assembly to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The event featured beautiful student performances, including singing and poetry readings, which truly brought Dr. King’s message to life. Principal Bull also shared a touching story that inspired reflection and hope. Thank you to everyone who participated and made this celebration of Dr. King’s vision so meaningful! We also had a beautiful art piece created by all of our students.

Black Diamond Elementary came together to celebrate our Veterans and our Country by creating a giant American Flag as a school-wide community art project. Students’ handprints make up the stars and stripes of our country’s unique flag. Every class in the school participated in this undertaking. The students and staff hope to share the message that it is the work of many helping hands, especially those of our veterans, that has made the USA a wonderful country to be part of. Lucy Santos, a 5th-grade teacher at BDE, facilitated the project. She is pictured here with her amazing 5th-grade class, who helped choose the project.

This past Wednesday, our local firefighters made a special visit during lunch recess! They passed out stickers, gave the kids an exciting tour of the fire truck, and shared important fire safety tips. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to meet real-life community heroes and learn about the incredible work they do. A big thank you to our local firefighters for making the day so memorable!

BDE students started their year off big with a "tiny art show" at the elementary school's open house this last week. The students crafted "tiny art" in class, with unique projects that incorporated the elements of art and diverse materials. Their pieces were then transformed into the "tiny art show" display that the community got to enjoy. Cheers to these students and teachers who put on a stellar show of skill and creativity. Lucy Santos, a 5th grade teacher at BDE, designed and facilitated the show with the goal of bringing community and creativity together at BDE. Thank you to all the wonderful community and school staff that supported the "tiny art show". The show is now on display at the Enumclaw School District Office and will move back to the school in November.
